At Cohesive Society CIC, we are excited to introduce a new initiative called “Everyday English: Talk, Listen, and Learn.” This programme is designed to support individuals from diverse backgrounds who now call our community home. We know that speaking and understanding English can be a real challenge, especially when you are new here or have had little chance to learn.

Many of the people we work with are new migrants or have a minimal English vocabulary. They face numerous barriers when trying to communicate with native English speakers in their daily lives, whether at work, school, the doctor’s office, or even on the bus. Not knowing how to join a conversation or understand local accents and slang can make people feel left out and isolated.

This is where “Everyday English: Talk, Listen, and Learn” steps in. Our goal is to build confidence in speaking and listening. We want everyone to feel comfortable and able to join in chats with their neighbours, workmates, or anyone they meet in everyday situations. We also understand that the various accents, dialects, and ways of speaking in English can make it more challenging to learn the language, even if you already know some words and phrases. So, we will focus on real-life English – the kind of English people use here in Britain.

Our trainers and volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, so they understand what it’s like to be new and struggle to speak up. They will use simple methods, fun activities, and friendly group sessions to help everyone get better at English. We aim to create a warm, homely space where people can relax, make mistakes without worry, and continue learning.

We also know that improving English skills is not just about talking. It opens doors to jobs, training, and a better life. Employers and local services want to see people who can understand and be understood. It also helps people feel part of the local community and take pride in how far they have come.

We believe that a strong, cohesive society needs people who can connect and share their stories. By equipping people with the skills to communicate in English, we are helping to build bridges across cultures. This is good for everyone in our community.

We are looking for partners who share our vision. If you are an organisation, funder, or just someone who cares about helping people grow, please join us. We are also seeking participants – if you know anyone who struggles with speaking and understanding English, please let them know about us. We promise to welcome them with kindness and patience.

To learn more, visit our website at www.cohesivesociety.org, call us on 07932 484 632, or drop in to say hello. Let’s work together to ensure everyone feels confident speaking up, listening, and taking part in everyday life here in Britain.

Please help us spread the word – together, we can make sure no one is left out of the conversation!
